of perspective right now. just this morning on "meet the press," president obama essentially was blaming republicans for the inability to move anything and speaker boehner, a couple hours later took to twitter to blame the president for not urging the senate to pass a bill that the house passed, but that bill wouldn't pass the democratic led senate anyway. when the two lead negotiators in the whole process, speaker boehner and president obama with two days to go are still in blame game mode, we are very unlikely to get something done in the last 48 hours. >> jimmy, let me bring you in on the next topic. robert hinted at it. this should be a win. it should be about the american people getting a win here. winners andlosers. it is politics. what about the president here? is he going to have a tough sengd term if he has to take this same battle into next year and be dealing with this. he talked this morning he wanted to take on immigration control and gun control and energy. those things can't get done if he has to go into this major battle again. >> i like looking back at when bill clinton

's a long list which goes against one of the mistakes that the traditional press has made in covering this which is covering this as a republican versus democrat story, a conservative versus obama story which, really, you see up on the screen some of those primary winners, this was in large part at first a republican versus republican story. >> and, obviously, i think one of the underlying elements of the fiscal cliff drama is that mitch mcconnell is up in 2014. and to have his fingerprints on any deal at this juncture would probably invite a lot of hows if not a primary challenge whether or not that's successful. the bigger story here is the disintegration of any party institutions. in the past, the center of congressional campaign committees would probably be able to keep it at bay, use their resources, use their money to elevate the more moderate party minded politicians. nowadays, they've attributed a lot of that to these tea party groups. they say this person is not leading up to the conservative credentials. therefore, he they need to be plucked off. that is hampering a lot of l

on this right now. so not everybody is. a live picture of the press conference. a live picture of the capitol. five days away, the big tax hikes could kick in. we are now receiving word that the president, president obama will not send legislation to congress today that might avert the so-called fiscal cliff. the president pulled the plug on his holiday trip to hawaii and arrived in washington shortly after 11:00 in hopes of prodding congress to lock in taxes for all but the wealthiest 2%. so a republican source told us he would be sending legislation to capitol hill, but the white house is telling us no, that is not the case. you have the president there at the white house. you have the senate in session and they are scattered throughout the country and taxes are going up on january 1st. let's listen to harry reid. he is not happy about the house and being away. he is the top senate democrat. >> we are here in washington working. we have the house of representatives out watching movies and watching their kids play soccer and basketball and doing all kinds of things. they should be here. >> h
